Year Round Fun
Aurora is our cosy Kelo log cabin in Finland's number one ski resort, Yllas. Situated in the pretty Lappish Village, Akaslompolo, you will find plenty of things to keep you busy all year round.
Our first snow normally falls in November and lasts through to May so there's lots of snow fun for all the family -skiiing, snowmobiling, icelandic horse riding, ice fishing, snow shoeing, the list is endless. Of course if you are really lucky you may see the Northern Lights or even Santa at his house in the village.....
Children are especially welcome with good nursery slopes and excellent tuition from English speaking ski professionals. Smaller children love being pulled around the village on sledges and using the local toboggan run. There is an indoor swimming pool and spa facilities at the Akashotelli (nominal fee payable locally).
The idyllic Arctic Summer months bring endless Summer days and surprisingly high temperatures.
Why not fish our clean lakes and rivers, walk the spectacular fells, hire a mountain bike or canoe or maybe just relax at the side of one of our beautiful lakes, breathe the clean air and enjoy the tranquility. Birdwatchers and nature lovers will certainly not be disappointed.
You will find the Lappish people welcoming and helpful and as 95% of Finns speak English you will have no language problems either with Ski or activity instructors or at restaurants. You can try delicious Finnish food, maybe try reindeer steak or some freshly caught fish but you will also find that most restaurants serve Pizza's or burgers.
Transport Connections to Yllas are good, there are numerous charter flights to Kittila during the ski season. You can fly to Tampere with Ryanair and take the overnight train to Kolari. Blue1 and Finnair fly to Kittila from Helsinki. You could maybe fly to Pajala or Lulea just across the border in Sweden or Tromso in Norway and then hire a car for the scenic drive through forest roads.
